This year at Westside has been wonderful! We're so sad to see both Mr. Sainsbury and Mrs. Johnson leave Westside, they have made such an incredible impact on our school and we are so glad to have had them here. We will also miss all of our teachers who are moving on, and are so grateful for them. We hope everyone has a wonderful summer break and we'll see you next year!

Second Grade Reading Fair

Submitted by lindsey.smith on Mon, 05/23/2016 - 15:32

Last Thursday our second graders put on an amazing reading fair. Each child chose a book, created a display, and dressed up as a character from their book. As classes came around to visit the fair, the children told about their book and answered questions. Their creativity and hard work were evident, and were so much fun to see!

Today the fourth graders were visited by Jeff Ballard, from Rees Elementary, who taught them some basics of drumming. The kids listened and learned as he showed them where to place their hands and how to hit the drum to the beat, eventually putting together a song that they all played. Mr. Ballard has visited countries all over the world and was also able to tell the kids about drumming in different countries, and show them drums that he has collected.

Last week the fifth grade presented a Patriotic Program and Famous American Wax Museum to the school and to their parents. During the program they sang songs about the founding of America, their gratitude for our freedom, and for those who fight to keep us free. Immediately following, each student participated in the Wax Museum. Having researched a famous American, they dressed as that person and presented a short speech about their life.

Nebo District changes day for district-wide collaboration time

Nebo’s district-wide collaboration day will change to Monday instead of Wednesday beginning in the 2016 - 2017 school year. All students will continue to be dismissed 45 minutes early from school on Mondays. Nebo District implemented a highly successful, district-wide collaboration time in 2008. Collaboration time is specifically for teachers to focus on improved student learning and quality instruction.
