Last week, the student council and many of the students at Westside wrote birthday cards for Rhett. Rhett is 8 years old and has Down syndrome. Over the past few years some of his Facebook friends and family have joined in in sending him Birthday cards. This year, however, Rhett wanted 999 cards!
Rhett has been through so much in his short life. He's had open heart surgery, a diagrammatic hernia repair, a tethered spinal cord repair, a palate reconstruction and a UPPP repair on his airway, as well as a g-tube and a Nissen. Currently his heart is having some more issues and his tricuspid valve needs to be replaced.
According to the Facebook page, "Rhett LOVES cards. They are his favorite thing in the world. He will spend hours in the card aisle reading every single one if you would let him. Please help us make our little guy happy. It's something so small to us that would mean the world to him. Even if it's a home made card he would be more than thrilled."
