Shoe Drive

Throughout the week of April 21-24, students at Westside participated in the annual shoe drive to benefit children in Ghana.  Hundreds of pairs of shoes were brought in, counted and sorted.  The top three classes were:  Mrs. Hansen's PM kindergarten class, Mr. Fox's fifth grade class, and Mrs. Paynter's fifth grade class.  

Tunes & Tales Trio Visits Westside

The Tunes and Tales Trio visited Westside on Wednesday, April 22nd.  Here, they performed a variety of songs using a flute, harp, viola and violin.  Part of the presentation to the upper grades was to explain how the instruments work, and what they are made of.  Students were delighted as they listened to the various sounds and songs the instruments produced.

Top Mathletes Recognized

The three highest scoring mathletes at Westside were recognized for their efforts last Wednesday, April 15th.  Cam Monson, Michelle Mumford and Ariana Hammer were recognized for their high achievement on their test.  Mrs. Matis, principal, and Mrs. Jordan, mathletes instructor, were on hand to recognize these participants with a special plaque.

Fifth Grade Program

On Wednesday, April 1st, the fifth grade students at Westside performed their program for the school and for their parents and families.  The program focuses on special events and music throughout United States history,- especially during the 1900's.  Students and teachers alike came dressed reflecting a particular decade throughout history.

Nestle Day of Caring

On Friday, March 27th, volunteers from Nestle came to Westside for the official Nestle Day of Caring.  Throughout the day, these volunteers had the opportunity to read with students in the classroom, and also to spend quality time with students playing games.  

Fourth Grade Fossils

As part of the fourth grade social studies curriculum, students in Ms. Parra's fourth grade class made their own fossils in class.  Students learn about how archaeology informs us about the past.
