Mrs. Matis Farewell

The week before school let out for the summer, students and teachers surprised Mrs. Matis with a farewell assembly.  Under the direction of the facilitator Teresa Jordan, students learned a special song "Living in the Hall of Fame".  The entire school also participated in an elaborately choreographed lip dub with a variety of songs.  Everyone had fun putting this together. 

Fourth Grade Pioneer Day

Last week, students in the fourth grade were able to get a taste of what it might have been like to live as a pioneer.  Throughout the day, students participated in activities, games and crafts which were prevalent during pioneer times.  

Orchestra Performance

Last week, sixth grade orchestra students performed a medley of songs specifically for the fifth grade students.  The performance was to show the younger students how great it is to be in orchestra!  Next year, sixth grade students will again have the opportunity to enroll in the orchestra program.

Fourth Grade Program

Last week, Westside fourth grade students presented their program for students, teachers and parents.  The program consisted of several songs which relate specifically to Utah history, which is part of the fourth grade curriculum.

Scales and Tales

On April 28th, Westside Elementary, in conjunction with the Scholastic Book Fair, hosted a community reading event.  Miss Springville, and fireman from Springville, took their time to come and read with groups of students.  A performer from Scales and Tales enchanted students, and gave them an opportunity to interact with some of the animals.

Shoe Drive

Throughout the week of April 21-24, students at Westside participated in the annual shoe drive to benefit children in Ghana.  Hundreds of pairs of shoes were brought in, counted and sorted.  The top three classes were:  Mrs. Hansen's PM kindergarten class, Mr. Fox's fifth grade class, and Mrs. Paynter's fifth grade class.
