Math Olympiads

Last week we celebrated our Westside Math Olympiads. These students were among the approximately 100,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad program. They participated in a series of five monthly contests and weekly practice sessions that taught them to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively.

The students did well and were recognized with certificates for their participation. An embroidered felt patch was awarded to several students who were in the top 50% of all participants worldwide. We even had a student who was awarded a silver pin for scoring in the top 10% worldwide. We would like to publicly thank Mrs. Athena Hammer for running Math Olympiads at Westside for the past four years. We are sad that she will be leaving us since she will no longer have students at Westside. We are currently seeking a parent volunteer to take over Math Olympiads.
