Oh Deer!

In a lesson in our Ecosystem science unit in Mrs. Crook’s class, students were split into two groups, one group were deer (about 1/3 of the students) and stood against one wall and the rest were available resources, either water, food or shelter, standing on the other side. Deer had to cross the room and take one resource with them back to the other side. After a few tries, students learned that resources soon ran out and the deer were left without and died. Those students then became resources and started again. The students loved this lesson and learned that species can run out of resources and that in order to maintain an ecosystem, there needs to be a balance.
