Living Planet Aquarium Visit

Submitted by lindsey.smith on

This week the sixth grade classes at Westside were visited by the Living Planet Aquarium. They learned about ecosystems as they played a game simulating the life of a turtle and discussed the effect of animals on their habitats. The kids also saw and had the chance to pet a three-banded armadillo, an African pygmy hedgehog, a Bredli carpet python, and a giant cave cockroach.

Learning About the Middle Ages

Submitted by lindsey.smith on

To kick off learning about the Middle Ages, several sixth grade classes were visited recently by a Viking knight, Sir Bailey. The sixth graders learned all about what it meant to be a knight during the Viking times, what they wore, weapons that they used, and what their lives were like. It was so interesting to have a visitor from the past to bring history alive!

In late December Westside received a special treat with a visit from Santa! He came to say hello to each class, passed out candy canes, and reminded the children to do their best. Westside is always grateful for such wonderful visitors!

Orchestra Assembly

Just before the Christmas break, sixth grade orchestra students displayed their talents in an assembly. The sixth graders, some of who had never played their instrument before this year, played Christmas music as the school listened. Several students also showed their instrument and played a solo to demonstrate the sound.

Congratulations to our wonderful sixth grade teacher, Mr. Lovell, who won last week's Zion's Bank and KSL Teacher Feature! He was honored during an assembly with a plaque, and will be interviewed on KSL radio in the near future. We are so grateful to have such wonderful teachers at Westside, who do all they can to help our students succeed.
