Fourth grade Election Day

Submitted by arlene.haymond on

Fourth graders have had fun learning about the rights and responsibilities of citizens, including learning about the voting process.   After writing campaign speeches and conducting primary elections, these four sets of president/ vice president pairs went on to represent their classes as the fourth grade presidential nominees.  Congrats to all our candidates!

Día de los Muertos

Submitted by arlene.haymond on
We celebrated Día de los Muertos with a delicious Day of the Dead bread, some reading and videos that taught us about this Mexican Day of the Dead (Día De Los Muertos) is a two day holiday that reunites the living and dead. Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored.

Clark Planetarium Field Trip

Submitted by arlene.haymond on

Clark Planetarium generously donated an at-school field trip for the sixth graders at Westside. Because they couldn’t take a real field trip this year, they spent the day watching awesome videos from the planetarium’s dome theater as well as the IMAX, eating sack lunches outside, doing space art projects, and ended the day playing a class vs. class kickball game. Way to go sixth graders for making the best out of our unique situation this year.
