Argumentative Writing and a Pigeon

Submitted by arlene.haymond on

In Ms. Price's class we are learning about argumentative writing. We had a fun lesson on writing claims. The students had to write a claim for the pigeon in the book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" by Mo Willems. They had to defend their claim and understand who their audience was. The class voted after for who's was the best claim. Carson Gonzalez won with the following claim, "If you let me drive the bus, I will buy you a ticket to Disneyland." Congratulations Carson!

Greenhouse Effect

Submitted by arlene.haymond on

6th graders have been learning about the greenhouse effect and how the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere make our planet “just right” with less extreme heat and cold than other planets. They conducted an experiment where they checked the temperatures of two different bottles every minute, one closed and one opened, with a light shining down on them. Then they turned off the light and watched which one held the most heat.

BYU Ecosystems Presentation

Submitted by arlene.haymond on

The sixth grade was privileged to have a BYU professor, Dr. Loreen Allphin who is Mrs. Crook’s sister, give a presentation about Ecosystems. She is a professor of Plant and Wildlife Science and is extremely knowledgeable about this subject. It was a great presentation and the students learned so much. Thank you, Dr. Allphin!
