4H Performance Evening

Recently, students who signed up for 4H programs at Westside were able to show parents, family and friends what they have learned the last couple of months.  4H programs offered through Westside included a volleyball class, bell choir, arts and crafts, Spanish class, etc.  A new session of 4H classes will begin on November 26th.

Indoor Soccer Faculty Vs. Sixth-Grade Students

On November 2nd, several sixth-grade students participated in an indoor soccer game against a group of faculty members from Westside.  Mr. Fox, a fifth-grade teacher, works with students during intramural games at recess time, to improve their athletic skills in a certain sport.  Students have the opportunity to sign up for intramurals at the beginning of each term.

Charlene Hall receives the Crystal Apple Award

Charlene Hall, a first-grade teacher at Westside, received the Crystal Apple Award on Monday, November 5th.  Teresa Jordan, facilitator at Westside, presented Charlene with this prestigious award.  This award is peer-nominated and given to recognize excellence in teaching.  Charlene has been teaching for nine years, all of which have been in first grade.  When asked about why she likes to teach, she talks about her love of the students.  She loves their hugs and the idea that everything is new to them.  She is the one that gets to teach them how to be students.

Halloween Fun at Westside

On October 31st, students, staff and faculty at Westside celebrated Halloween with a variety of activities.  Earlier in the day, many classes celebrated the day with classroom parties and games.  Later in the afternoon, every class participated in the annual Halloween parade.  Parents were invited to watch the parade that took place outside on the playground area. 

Westside Sixth Grade Students see Thoroughly Modern Millie

Recently, sixth-grade students at Westside Elementary visited Springville Junior High School to see the production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.  The students were impressed with not only the costumes, but with the acting and singing.  The teachers and students appreciated the opportunity to see such a great production.

Teresa Jordan turns 18 (with 22 years experience!)

Teachers and faculty at Westside mourned the loss of her youth of Mrs. Jordan today, at the same time celebrating the wonderful person that we know today!  Teresa is very loved at Westside for a plethora of reasons.  Not only does she sincerely care about students and other teachers, but she is always looking for ways to help others.  This is not easy as she is a full-time mom as well.  We hope she knows how much she is loved and adored here at Westside by not only the students, but her peers as well.

PTA Reflections Contest Display

Many students at Westside recently participated in the national Reflections contest.  Their creations are currently on display in the north-east corner of the school.  The theme for this year was "The Magic of a Moment".  The students who participated could represent their interpretation of this theme through dance, writing, art, and music.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair was open at Westside starting Tuesday, October 23rd, and will continue through the end of the week.  Storytellers will visit Westside on Thursday night for a storytelling event, open to Westside parents and students.

African Drum and Dance Assembly

On Monday, October 22, students and teachers were privileged to participate in an African drum and dance assembly.  Three African performers came to Westside to educate students about various aspects of Africa,-mainly dance and music.  For a portion of the assembly, students and teacher were also brought up onto the stage to learn parts of African dances.
